        She Fills the Room

She fills the room with leaves

        and fruit and flowers

        until the tall wooden bedposts

        rise from foliage

and the wood of the walls

is covered in vines.  We stay here

        all spring and summer

until autumn turns the leaves brittle

        and snow begins to fall,

but she has eiderdown quilts and

        her arms,

        her arms

        that can hold us both

        through any winter.
